What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program?
Nothing! I am completely happy with my program. Everything is taught from scratch; things which were covered in sixth form were retaught (albeit at a faster pace) so do not be scared of forgetting things over summer.
What was your best experience at university?
Being with my friends! We have fun socials and societies here. The best moment was probably sitting in the kitchen with my flatmates with some takeout, just talking and laughing the entire evening (although we did end up setting off the fire alarm!).
What was your worst university experience?
Actually, freshers week. I’m naturally introverted so dancing every night with semi-strangers for five days in a row was not what I would call a good time.
What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?
Lab work: the actual experiences can be quite boring and the theory behind it can be complex. This combination makes it hard to do an excellent write up. The biggest help was practice. Don’t expect your first write ups to be perfect; put effort into your first experiences so you can build up practice before the real thing.
What was your favourite module/course and why?
My optional module was magic, science and religion. I would recommend interesting and/or easy optional modules - your degree is difficult enough as it is!
What tips and advice would you give to first year students?
You get out what you put in at university. Definitely make the effort to do anything you want as it is the perfect time to get to know yourself. Also, check how far away your accommodation is - I would say try not to live more than a fifteen minute walk away from where you’ll be based.
