What did you wish you knew before choosing your specific program?

In terms of academic support, the university is excellent. However, the support from my school is not satisfactory. I found there to be poor communication between the school and students, some lecturers were not responsible or professional enough etc. Make sure to do thorough research on the school you are interested in applying to.

What was your best experience at university?

Engaging in a variety of school events such as academic workshops and social activities. Also, being selected as a Laidlaw scholar enriched my university experience.

What was your worst university experience?

The academic support is very disappointing. I found it very difficult to get in touch with lecturers.

What is the hardest part about your program and what were the steps that you took to overcome any difficulties?

The academic support is very disappointing. I found it very difficult to get in touch with lecturers. I had to actively look for resources from the university, online tutorials, independent reading, and try contacting lecturers or seminar leaders.

What tips and advice would you give to first year students?

Being a first-year student can be very challenging as it is a transformation experience from college to university. Build up your academic knowledge and network: look for resources that can support you throughout the programme, such as by becoming familiarised with the university website to identify school support. That way, when you need help, you can make arrangements quickly and accordingly. Browsing the university website also means you often explore a wide range of learning opportunities.
